GL Courses
ANT 3212- World Ethnographies
ANT 3241- Myth, Ritual, and Mysticism
-
Myth, Ritual, and Mysticism demonstrated anthropological approaches to the study of myth, ritual, and mysticism, as religious and symbolic systems. This course also compared the social and psychological functions of myth and ritual in small-scale and complex societies. This course was very important as it taught me the importance of being culturally competent when helping clients out in the field.
CCJ 4694- Human Trafficking
-
Human Trafficking helped me examine issues related to human trafficking and immigration from an international and global perspective. From a social workers' perspective, our role is to provide direct support to those victimized through advocacy and clinical interventions, educating the community and service providers about the needs of those victimized, and advocating for infrastructure and funding for intervention and treatment programs.
SOW 3233- Social Welfare Policy
-
Social Welfare Policy examined the frameworks and methods used to analyze social welfare policies and programs. This class focused on current policy issues in the Social Welfare system and strategies that be used to achieve policy change as a social worker.
SOW 3620- Social Work and Human Diversity
-
Social Work and Human Diversity prepared me for generalist social work practice with diverse populations, while focusing on knowledge, attitude, and skills. As social workers, diversity is the central tenant of success. We have a unique ability to understand both the difficulties faced by different groups of people and how the inequalities of our current social systems can have a negative effect on lives- such as people of color or members of the LGBTQ+ community.
