Global Learning Reflection

Raised in Orlando my entire life, I decided to move to Miami right after high school for college. Moving to such a big city like Miami, it was so important for me to find a community of like-minded people who supported each other's desire to grow. Although it was hard to adjust to the new environment, FIU's diversity and inclusivity made it very easy to feel at home. Since I was a little girl, I have always had a passion for learning about the world and giving back to the community, which took me to study Social Work. Through global learning, I had the opportunity to participate in serval activities and courses that enhanced my global awareness, perspective, and engagement. As someone who came to FIU not knowing anyone at all, global learning gave me the option to get involved with different organizations within FIU which exposed me to new global experiences. Attending Tuesday Times Roundtable, participating in Alternative Breaks, studying abroad, and becoming an intern allowed me to grow as a student and a leader in my community. Global learning confirmed my desire of pursuing a career in social policy. In the future, I hope to work on initiatives that focus on social welfare and services to immigrants and refugees. All in all, I am so grateful that global learning allowed me to explore and gain the knowledge to become a more culturally competent student and professional.
